MP Dib to LBCI: Resolving Arsal's current state requires political decision
Member of the Change and Reform bloc MP Hekmat Dib stressed Friday that the Lebanese state must enter Arsal, noting that “the northeastern town must undergo an operation with the least possible cost.”

In a statement to LBCI’s Nharkom Said, Dib said that issue of Arsal requires a political decision, “since the military decision has already been made.”

On another note, MP Dib said that the Islamic State rejects moderate Sunnis, adding that “the Future Movement is the enemy of this terrorist organization, but its position regarding the political tactic remains indecisive.”

The border town hosts thousands of refugees who fled the atrocities of the current conflict in neighboring Syria. Militants from the al-Nusra Front, al-Qaeda's Syria branch, and the Islamic State group are deployed in the town's outskirts.

In August 2014, the gunmen stormed the town and engaged in fierce clashes with the Lebanese army, leaving several casualties and taking a number of military men as hostages.

The situation is still unstable in the town's outskirts amid near-daily arrests and clashes between the army and the militants.
