Speaker of the House Nabih Berri is currently meeting with PM Najib Mikati at the Parliament to discuss the electricity plan, following the deferral of today’s Cabinet session to September 7th.
The Parliament’s Secretary General said that the session that was supposed to be held today, Wednesday, will be postponed. “This step was taken by Speaker Nabih Berri because the Parliament failed to reach quorum”.
Future bloc MPs refused Berri’s decision, stating that Parliament has the right to pass laws in the absence of the cabinet. Change and Reform bloc members were frustrated by the delay of “such a vital project”.
MPs from the Development and Liberation bloc and the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc withdrew from the parliamentary session before the deferral was announced.
