Maronite bishops synod: Presidential elections is a national issue, not only limited to Maronites

The Maronite bishops synod gathering said Thursday that the election of a new president is a national issue, which is not only limited to the Maronites, praising the dialogues held between the Future Movement and Hezbollah and between the Free Patriotic Movement and the Lebanese Forces.

In this context, the bishops urged the deputies to attend the electoral parliamentary session in order to assume their constitutional duty, calling on the neighboring states to support Lebanon.

Concluding their four-day synod in Bkerke, the bishops issued a statement whereby they stressed the need to continue the liturgical reform movement while upholding tradition, pointing out that the dioceses in Syria are bearing witness to the tragic situations.

The statement also hailed the role played by Pope Francis in supporting the existence of Christians in the Middle East.
