The Lebanese Army Intelligence arrested two Lebanese men after engaging them in a shootout in the eastern village of Masharih al-Qaa on Friday night.
The military said in a statement that an army unit was attempting to arrest Jaafar Hajj Hasan and Shadi Karnabi, who were both masked and riding a motorcycle, when one of them started shooting at the soldiers with a Kalashnikov rifle. Soldiers fired back at them, injuring them both, before arresting the men and moving them to receive the needed medical attention.
Also in Masharih al-Qaa, the army arrested a Syrian national, identified as Mohammad Khairallah, for belonging to a terrorist organization, and five others for illegally entering Lebanon.
One of the five Syrians also possessed a quantity of drugs, the statement added.
The Lebanese army also arrested 44 other Syrians across the country on Friday over lack of legal documentation.
