One injured in renewed clashes in Ain al-Helweh camp

Clashes resumed on Sunday in Titaba neighborhood in Ain al-Helweh camp, while the state-run National News Agency reported that Palestinian national Mamdouh Ch. was injured in renewed gunfire in the Fouqani street.

Earlier in the day, NNA said that al-Baasiri and al-Njasa neighborhoods in the southern city of Sidon witnessed heavy sniper fire that targeted windows, streets and buildings.

Despite the ceasefire agreement reached on Saturday, sporadic clashes continued overnight in Ain al-Helweh refugee camp between Fatah Movement and Jund al-Sham, a notorious Islamist group.

Three people were killed and at least 20 injured in the clashes that caused damages in properties, vehicles and forced many Palestinian refugees to flee towards the city of Sidon.

The clashes also reached the Lebanese army checkpoints at the camp’s entrances, leading the troops to bring reinforcements and respond to the sources of fire.

The clashes were triggered Saturday by a failed assassination attempt that had targeted Fatah Movement official, Abou Ashraf Al Armoushe who was participating in the funeral of Youssef Jaber, one of the movement’s elements.

Sources added that two of Al Armoushe companions, and another civilian, were injured in a shooting incident.
