Activists of “We Want Accountability” campaign marched on Wednesday from the Riad al-Soleh Square towards the American University of Beirut Medical Center in a bid to voice their solidarity with protester Mohammad Kassir who sustained critical wounds to the head during Sunday’s protest.
Prior to their march, organizers of the campaign noted that the number of the detained activists is yet to be identified, reiterating their support for freedom of expression and peaceful demonstrations.
Earlier today, the campaign’s spokesman said “the regime fears the people who are calling for their rights. That's why it is assaulting them.”
He also asserted that they will file a lawsuit against all those who assaulted them from the Internal Security Forces.
Clashes renewed on Tuesday between protesters and security forces at the Riad al-Soleh square after some demonstrators tried to throw water bottles at the police.
This as the security apparatuses brought in more reinforcements, while organizers of the protests tried to calm the situation.
