Saudi ambassador to LBCI: Case of Saudi arrestees at Beirut airport was not discussed with Interior Minister Mashnouq
Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awad Asiri said on Tuesday that Saudi Arabia is keen on the national dialogue in Lebanon to solve all political dilemmas.
He also asserted to LBCI after meeting with Interior Minister Nouhad Masnouq that he did not discuss with him the issue of the Saudi nationals who were arrested at the Beirut International airport for trying to smuggle narcotic pills.
Asiri noted that such issue id left in the hands of the Lebanese courts “which he respects.”
The Inspection Unit at Beirut International Airport thwarted on Monday an attempt to smuggle Captagon pills to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The state-run National News Agency reported that the pills were hidden inside 40 bags, weighing approximately 2 tons and were to be smuggled by five Saudi nationals through a privately owned jet.

Five Saudis were arrested and investigations are ongoing in order to uncover the circumstances of the operation.

It is worth mentioning that NNA described it as the biggest smuggling operation ever discovered at the Beirut airport.
