Arsal residents march against explosions targeting their town

Residents of the border town of Arsal organized on Monday two marches to condemn the latest explosions that targeted the Qalamoun Muslim Scholars Committee and the Lebanese army.

The participants hoisted the Lebanese flags and raised banners with slogans supporting the army.

Four Lebanese Armed Forces soldiers were injured on Friday (November 6) in an explosion targeting a LAF tank in the region of al-Jammali in northeastern town of Arsal.

In this regard, sources said that gunfire was heard following the explosion in the said region, noting that the bomb targeted the LAF patrol on its way back from an inspection tour to Thursday’s explosion site in Arsal.

One day earlier, an explosion targeted a meeting of Qalamoun Scholars Committee in Arsal’s al-Sabil neighborhood, leaving several killed and injured.

The Qalamoun Scholars Committee is known to play a major role in the negotiations conducted to free the abducted soldiers.

The troops were kidnapped by the al-Qaida-affiliated al-Nusra Front and Islamic State militants in the wake of clashes in the border town in August 2014.
