From Wadi Khaled to Arsal, victims fall along the shared border

Frequent incidents at the Lebanese-Syrian border are nothing new; they have been on the rise as violence in Syria has been on the increase since March last year.

The Syrian-Lebanese border winds along for 330 km; arduous rocky terrain stretches from Arida in the west to Chebaa farms, including many hotspots that witnessed shooting from Syria targeting the Lebanese towns of Wadi Khaled, Kaa and Arsal. The latest incident was the killing of Al Jadeed cameraman Ali Chaaban in the Bekaya plain.

Syrian breaches into Lebanese territory began in November 2011 when a person was shot in Kaa following an incursion of Syrian troops. Periodical deaths and injuries were reported during the Syrian army’s infiltration into the town of Arsal that stretches along 50 km along the Syrian territories.

At the end of December 2011, shooting from inside the Syrian territories targeted a Lebanese car in Wadi Khaled without prior notice, killing three unarmed civilians.
