Introduction to the evening news 19-04-2012

At a peak of a verbal bout that erupted during MP Alain Aoun’s speech, MP Sami Gemayel approached Speaker Berri and whispered some words in his ear. The Speaker answered out loud: “I am disgusted; you see why I don’t want to hold a general discussion session?”

This expression reflected the hot atmosphere prevailing at the parliamentary session today, but fortunately, it maintained some minimal sense of decorum.

Tomorrow is another day for the executive power as the cabinet will convene under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Najib Mikati. Among the most prominent issues on the table: flour subsidies and the transportation sector.

As for Syria, all eyes are on Paris where the “Friends of Syria” coalition is holding a meeting this evening. Meanwhile, Russia described this meeting as “destructive”.
