Introduction to the evening news 23-04-2012
It’s a close race in Syria between the immunization of the truce, through the deployment of international monitors, and its downfall after numerous breaches. The UN spokesperson announced that 300 UN monitors would gradually be deployed beginning next week. The spokesperson also acknowledged that the current situation in Syria is very dangerous.

Meanwhile, a surprising development emerged in Egypt when the nation’s foreign affairs minister met with the head of Syrian National Council, Burhan Ghalioun.

In Lebanon, all eyes are on Wednesday’s cabinet session; Especially on the item to be discussed relating to expatriate voting in the upcoming parliamentary election. But voting abroad is not the only item on a laundry-list agenda that is keeping lawmakers up at night. The electoral draft law has been on the table at all legislative meetings despite two different proposals: one suggesting to have a single voting district spanning the country in its entirety while the other calls for bringing back the pre-civil war electoral law of the 1960s.
