Clashes intensify in Tripoli amid heavy deployment of armed men
A large number of security forces, under the command of Bassam Ayoubbi, halted their deployment near the entrance to Bab al-Tebbaneh due to heavy gunfire and sniping.

Security Forces are expected to deploy on Saturday in Tripoli's streets to restore calm in line with a plan agreed upon during a security meeting held in Tripoli.

A meeting was held earlier in the day in Tripoli where participants agreed that Internal Security Forces enter the area of the clashes and put an end to the violence.  

Sources confirmed to LBCI that, during the security meeting, participants contacted Refaat Eid who pledged that no bullet will be fired from Jabal Mohsen unless the neighborhood comes under attack.  

In this context, MP Khaled Daher told LBCI that the cabinet is responsible for Tripoli events, adding that "the political decision does not rest within the cabinet, but rather with the Syrian regime and Hezbollah.

Clashes intensified on Saturday between Tripoli’s rival neighborhoods, killing 11 and injuring more than 30 people. The city saw heavy deployment of armed men.

Mahmoud al-Bahri and Fatima el-Sheikh were reportedly killed by snipers in Bab el-Tebbaneh.

Several injuries were also reported in al-Hara el-Beraniyeh clashes as all roads leading to Bab el-Tebbaneh and Jabal Mohsen were blocked by protesters.    

NNA earlier reported that an RPG fell on the area of al-Mallouleh – Beddawi on Saturday morning. No injuries were reported.          

Tripoli was the scene of heavy gunfire on Friday evening in the city's Syria Street where gun shots were being fired in the direction of Jabal Mohsen, killing Khaled al-Rifai and injuring Ahmad Merhi, Kamal Jalilati and Radwan Fayad.          

6 missiles were reported to hit Baal al-Darawish locality of Jabal Mohsen and the house of Abdul Rahman Hamad in Starco Street in Bab el-Tebbaneh burning down after impact.

In an attempt to calm the situation, Prime Minister Najib Mikati called security leaders, requesting them to strengthen the prosecution of security violators and shooters and to intensify measures to restore calm in the city.
