Public notaries in Lebanon amid employment discourse
The number of Lebanese public notaries ranges between 170 to 225. Some of them are qualified via a government assessment test while others are by commission.

The problem began when the Administration and Justice Committee approved the draft law which stipulates that commissioned public notaries be given permanent job titles and benefits without being subjected to a governmental assessment test or comply to the legal age limit.

The reason for the approval of this law remains unknown however some notaries told LBCI on Sunday that the reason may be political.

160 public notaries held a meeting where they discussed the law, calling on the Lebanese President, House Speaker, and Minister of Justice to protect their trade.
