Geagea predicts Assad will fall

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea stated on Thursday that Prime Minister Najib Mikati is attempting to assume his responsibilities regarding the funding of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, adding that even if the government were to be reduced to the role of caretaker [i.e. after mass resignation of ministers], it would not be able to escape funding the international court.

He said: “The government will incur negative consequences if it shrugs its duty to fund the STL.” On Hezbollah, the head of the Lebanese Forces remarked: “The current situation cannot last as [Syria] cannot maintain is military and security branches that will weigh heavily on its community and Lebanon itself.”

Asked about the Syrian situation, Geagea stated: “The international community has taken a decisive stand on it and will not back up”, predicting that the Syrian regime would be toppled.
