Abi Nasr to LBCI: Foreign Ministry did not promote overseas voting enough

Change and Reform bloc MP Nematallah Abi Nasr told Nharkom Saeed on Saturday that the country’s problems must be solved through dialogue, stressing that weapons are not the solution and that Lebanon’s salvation is up to the Lebanese people.     

Abi Nasr said that the dialogue’s decisions must be based on the country’s interests, adding “we must reach an understanding together, otherwise, chaos and instability will prevail”.     

Abi Nasr pointed out that all parties have weapons and that there is no national loyalty, adding that the Resistance has its reasons. “While we wait for this issue to be settled, weapons must be directed towards the south”, he said.     

Abi Nasr announced that there is a balance in everything in Lebanon, even in weapons, adding that the members of the current government need to engage in a serious dialogue. He wondered “if the current government resigns, can we guarantee the formation of a new one?:       

Abi Nasr called on moderate Muslims to understand that they should be the partners of Christians if we wanted this country to survive. He called for going back to the National Pact, adding that the Taef agreement undermined the Pact and nourished confessionalism and Salafism.        

As for the overseas voting, Abi Nasr said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not deploy enough efforts as to the Lebanese diaspora’s participation in the 2013 elections. He said that the ministry did not raise enough awareness and did not promote this issue sufficiently. “Overseas voting will not affect sectarian balance”, he said.
