REPORT: Lawmakers re-elect Berri as Lebanon's Speaker, el-Ferezli as Deputy Speaker

Lebanese MPs elected on Wednesday Nabih Berri as Lebanon's Speaker during the first session for the new Parliament.

Berri was elected for the sixth time since 1992 for the post which is reserved for a Shi'ite.

This as MP Elie el-Ferezli was later elected by the MPs as Deputy Speaker.

The post is reserved for a Greek Orthodox under the country's sectarian power-sharing system.

Also during the session, MPs Alain Aoun and Marwan Hamade were elected secretaries of the Parliament, with 84 and 75 votes respectively.
