The last electoral law issued in 2009 gave Lebanese immigrants the right to vote from their country of residence. At the time, former foreign minister Ali Chami informed the cabinet that his ministry did not have the capacities to apply this law in the Lebanese embassies. MP Boutros Harb asked the government about this right that was guaranteed by the constitution. “The government must provide the parliament with an answer regarding this issue”, Harb said. “It is completely untrue that the government does not have the capability to implement this law ”, Harb told LBC, adding that he is waiting for an answer. Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour said that the foreign ministry sent letters to 90 embassies and consulates abroad asking them if they could host Lebanese voters to participate in the Parliamentary elections. “Some of these embassies and consulates may resort to additional employees or utilize larger buildings to account for the large number of voters” Harb told LBC. “The foreign ministry will soon submit a report to the cabinet to confirm its willingness to open polling stations abroad.”
