Indictment in Nahr el Bared case: 148 people sentenced to death

Judge Ghassan Oueidat issued a 400-page indictment in the Nahr el Bared case on Thursday.

The indictment stipulated the execution of 148 convicts on charges of attacking the state’s internal security, carrying out and funding terrorist acts, murder and attempted murder and obstructing the course of justice. A permanent investigative memorandum was also included for 55 defendants within the indictment minute.

The indictment included 80 [in absentia] arrest warrants and the release of 126 detainees.

The leader of Fatah al-Islam Shaker al-Abssi is one the most wanted men against which an arrest warrant has been issued.

Some of those indicted on Thursday are still at large. They include Lebanese and foreigners.
The allegations stem from a three-month battle in Nahr el-Bared camp pitting the army against Fatah Islam. More than 170 soldiers died, as well as dozens of militants and Palestinian civilians.
