Houssam Houssam in the spotlight; what key information does he hold?

Houssam Houssam’s name was linked to preliminary investigations into the assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri. He first accused the Syrian regime of committing the crime but later backed down on his accusation, claiming that he received the alleged information from sources close to Hariri. Accordingly, the judicial investigator looking into the relevant crime issued an arrest warrant against him.    

Houssam remained in the spotlight after appearing in several crime scenes, including the assassination of Georges Hawi. His presence caused a hubbub on the political scene but despite the security control he was allegedly subject to, he managed to leave for Syria.    

In this context, field commander Abu Ali al-Doumani told LBCI that Houssam “has provided them with names of high-ranking Lebanese and Syrian figures”. Al-Doumani added that, during interrogation, it turned out that Houssam holds key information and secrets.     

In turn, former Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar told LBCI that all arrest warrants are circulated to the Interpol and border posts in the event of failure to implement them.
