Civil servants take to the streets
Civil servants staged a protest on Wednesday morning under the request of the Union Coordination Committee to protest the failure to approve the pay scale.   

The march comes simultaneously with a cabinet session held to discuss a 47-item agenda.

The protesters marched from the Barbir square all the way to the Grand Serial.    

In this context, the LAF and security forces beefed up precautionary measures to prevent any breach of security during the protest. Tight security measures were also imposed outside the Grand Serail where the Riot Control unit and Civil Defense vehicles were positioned.

In turn, the head of Association of Public Secondary School Education Teachers, Hanna Gharib, called for a swift approval of the pay scale "without procrastination", adding that “promises are no longer enough”.

Gharib confirmed adherence to the boycott of official exams’ correction, should their calls not be answered.

Gharib also called on parents and students alike to exert pressure on cabinet to approve the pay scale, speeding up the correction process.

In turn, the Head of Private Schools Teachers Syndicate in Lebanon, Nehmat Mahfouz, called on the cabinet to resign in the event of failure to approve the pay scale within 10 days, confirming that “teachers have received nothing but promises”.

Education Minister Hassan Diab also voiced awe over the continued boycott of the official exams’ following the approval of the UCC’s demands.

Diab pointed out that the extra demands of the union fall beyond the control of the education ministry, hoping that teachers would "back down from their decision and resume correction".
