Introduction to the evening news 01-08-2012
All Lebanese issues are swinging between near solutions and further complications:

While the issue of EDL contract workers was awaiting its “finishing touches”, it was delayed for 24 hours, to the surprise of all. More details on this case will be revealed throughout the bulletin.

On another note, the issue of the Lebanese pilgrims abducted in Syria is fluctuating between Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrarim and Abou Ibrahim; today, the abductees’ relatives visited the head of the General Security at his office, and according to information made available to LBCI, they understood that he will be heading to Turkey in the next 48 hours, and possibly to Qatar.

As for Sheikh Ahmad al-Assir’s sit-in, it is drawing its last breaths as exclusive sources told LBCI that the Interior Minister is on his way to Sidon to oversee the sit-in lifting process.

The issue of salaries and ranks scale is also midway, and it is expected to be ratified by the end of August, according to a statement made following the meeting between the minister of education and the Syndicate Coordination Committee. In news that will appeal to students, the agreement reached regarding the correction of official exams will be disclosed tomorrow.

The “midway” policy can be a synonym for “stagnation” amid the explosive regional situation. In Syria, the decisive battle launched by the regime against the opposition has ended its fifth day in Aleppo without making any qualitative progress. Remarkably, the opposition has started using the tanks they captured in the face of a regime that is using warplanes. From Syria, we head to Israel where the Iranian nuclear program dominated talks between the U.S. Defense Secretary and Israeli officials.
