Lebanon informs Iran of decision not to participate in Thursday’s Syria meeting

The Lebanese Foreign Ministry informed the Iranian authorities on Tuesday that Lebanon will not attend the conference on Syria expected to be held in Tehran on Thursday, “since it had never participated in any international conference on Syria in line of the adopted self-disassociation policy”, a source told AFP.

The source explained that Lebanon has responded in writing after receiving an official invitation to participate in the meeting.

Iran had called Monday for a Ministerial Consultative Meeting for countries that have a “realistic and grounded” stance on the Syrian crisis, announcing the participation of 10 countries.
