Bassil called on his counterpart to facilitate the export procedures for the agricultural and industrial Lebanese products to Britain and to appoint a special commercial envoy for the British PM in Lebanon. He also thanked him for the assistance provided by his country to Lebanon, mainly in terms of aid to the Lebanese army and the security forces.

He also sought clarification on his counterpart’s meeting with Gerard Kushner during US President Donald Trump’s visit to London. They also discussed the Syrian crisis and its repercussions on Lebanon, where Bassil explained the reasons that require the Syrian refugees to return to their country.

The Lebanese minister also met with Secretary of State for International Trade Lima Fox, with whom he discussed trade and investment exchange, asking him to encourage the British companies to invest in Lebanon. He then extended an invitation to the UK minister to visit Lebanon with a delegation from these companies.

During a working banquet at the British Foreign Ministry held in honor of Bassil by State Secretary for Middle East Affairs Andrew Morrison, talks focused on the issues of the Middle East, mainly the Palestinian cause and the challenges it is facing in light of what has been known as “the deal of the century” and its repercussions on the Palestinian people. Talks also tackled the Syrian war and the repercussions of the displacement crisis on Lebanon.

Afterwards, the minister met with Secretary of State for International Development Rory Stewart.
