Introduction to the evening news 24-08-2012

The month of August broke the record for the bloodiest month since the outbreak of the Syrian revolt. As for the number of refugees, more than 200,000 Syrians have poured into neighboring countries during the conflict, surpassing the 185,000 the U.N. refugee agency had expected to flee by the end of the year.

While the Assad regime continues to implement the security solution, Iran announced that it will present a suggestion to settle the disputes in Syria in the Non-Aligned Summit in Tehran next week.

The spillover of Syria’s bloody events onto Lebanon continues, as Tripoli’s clashes went beyond Bab al-Tebbaneh and Jabal Mohsen axis to reach other areas, such as the Tell and al-Zahiriyah. Several stores were also set on fire based on the owner’s sectarian identity. Reporters were not spared the shelling as Hussein Nahle and Canadian journalist Maria Maura were also injured in the shooting.

Meanwhile, the National Media Council back down on its previous threat to inflict punishments on certain visual media outlets. In this context, Information Minister Walid Daouk confirmed that the session did not aim at prosecuting media outlets but rather at working on “raising the level” of media work.    

However, all these events could not be considered as a “media victory” as it is “a political triumph”. Even if the camera commits mistakes, it is not what should be considered “out of control".
