Caretaker Energy Minister Nada Boustani stressed that “the state has been importing fuel oil for years without any issues,” noting that this is a competitive market.
In a statement to LBCI, Boustani explained that the fuel oil for Electricity Du Liban is imported through contracts made with other countries without mediator.
The minister stated that any company can place a bid for the gasoline import tender, stating that the ministry took this step fast in light of the current situation in the country and in order to prevent a crisis related to shortage of gasoline.
Boustani stressed that the state will distribute gasoline to stations and receive payment in LBP, noting that Banque Du Liban will treat them as the private sector and require them to pay 85% in LBP and 15 % in USD.
