The ambiguous identity of Syrian opposition members' kidnappers in north Lebanon

After the ISF’s Information Division foiled the Samaha - Mamlouk explosion plot, the LAF Intelligence managed to halt a Syrian plot to kidnap Syrian opposition figures in North Lebanon.        

In the details, when the LAF Intelligence received warnings that Syrian opposition figures in North Lebanon are being kidnapped, it intensified its patrols and checkpoints in the region. On Sunday at dawn, its troops arrested three Lebanese citizens who kidnapped Khaled Mustafa, a Syrian opposition figure conducting relief operations to help Syrian refugees. They were reportedly planning on taking him to Syria and handing him over to Syrian officers who recruited the gang’s members.       

The kidnapping gang made up of 6 members including one woman is now under the grasp of the judiciary. The gang is reportedly spearheaded by a citizen from the Akkar town of Berkayel who was recruited by a Syrian intelligence agent from the Lebanese village of Al-Hwaich. The gang’s leader was promised a hefty reward for every successful abduction.         

Reports emerged on the possible involvement of two journalists. They were reportedly gathering information on the Syrian opposition figures and conveying them to the Syrian intelligence that would in turn, inform the gang.
