Introduction to the evening news 17-09-2012

Lebanon began to engage in the protest movements denouncing the anti-Islam film "Innocence of Muslims".                  

As protesters set Tripoli’s KFC Restaurant on fire, authorities rushed to contain the situation at least while the Holy See was still in Lebanon. In contrast, Hezbollah called for a massive rally in Beirut’s Southern Suburbs.                

This march was the first among 5 others called for by Hezbollah in various Lebanese regions.              

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah appeared in person at the demonstration and called on Muslims to boycott the websites that insist on showing the film.                                      

Nasrallah reiterated his call for the issuance of an international resolution that criminalizes the defamation of prophets and the 3 major religions.                              

The march was preceded by a new sovereign position taken up by the Lebanese President who asked for explanations on the presence of Iranian revolutionary guards in Lebanon. This stance is based on a statement made by the Commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari who had said that Lebanon and Syria house members of the “Quds Legion”.
