Introduction to the evening news 20-09-2012

From the “Apostolic Exhortation” to the “Presidential Exhortation”; President Michel Sleiman finally had the chance to present his proposal of the defense strategy which had three main titles “People, Army, Resistance”. He based his proposal on the article 65 of the Constitution and the National Defense Law, and said: “agreement must be reached on the appropriate frameworks and mechanisms for the use of the Resistance’s arms and for the specification of its situation under the command of the Army which has the exclusivity of using military force elements, stressing that the work of the resistance does not start unless there is a case of occupation”.               

What reactions will this document face? What will Hezbollah respond? The answer may not appear before the 12th of November, the date of the next dialogue session.  

On the other hand, a new development in the file of Maj. Gen. Jamil Sayyed emerges, regarding the case of former Minister Michel Samaha. State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr called on Military Investigative Judge Riad Abu Ghida Thursday to follow up on the investigations in Samaha’s case, with no special request pertaining to the alleged involvement of Major General Jamil Sayyed.                     

On the Syrian level, a deadly attack on a gas station left around hundred people dead and injured, while on the political level, an unprecedented attack launched by President Bashar Assad targets Saudi Arabi, Qatar and Turkey, accusing Saudi Arabi and Qatar of using their money to buy “geography, history and regional role”.
