Insects invade Lebanese areas, environmentalists confirm they're harmless
The high temperatures and humidity witnessed in Lebanon in the past days have brought about swarms of insects and cockroaches that are sweeping the mountainous and coastal regions in the country.

Environmentalists have assured that these insects do not pose a threat to people and crops, but only cause disturbance due to their large numbers.

In an issued statement on Saturday, the Agricultural Scientific Research Service “Lari” reported that the “Nysius Cymoides” or the bug insects are spreading in various Lebanese regions, and they are attracted to light and to white color.

It indicated that "this kind of insect is harmless, but only causes inconvenience to citizens, and its number has increased due to the heat wave, as these insects move in large swarms to wet and irrigated places and to towns and villages.”

The statement added that “when necessary, controlling these insects can occur through the use of household insecticides that are sold in markets and commercial stores."
