Introduction to the evening news 02-09-2012
Yesterday’s floods topped the news headlines, today the country was ‘inundated’ with talks on the electoral law. While Monday’s rains caused damage to crops, properties and public roads, Tuesday saw an overflow of speeches and debates. These talks, much like the rain, seem to have over swept the notion of clean and fair elections, taking them deeper into darker alleys or in this case ‘calculations’.

Outside parliament and upon the end of the talks came the rhetoric and the counter rhetoric. Those that expressed support to the smaller districts draft law were met by its flaws from the opposing team representatives. Those who voiced their backing to the proportional law were also faced with what has been dubbed as ‘unfair’ in light of the presence of the arms of the Resistance.

Based on today’s events, one thing can certainly be foreseen; the talks may not come to fruition by the due date determined by the Minister of Interior, but may even extend further. The question though remains constant: are all these talks’ mere maneuvers to maintain the old law?
