Introduction to the evening news 12-10-2012

The week ended with two planes on top of the events: the Syrian plane forced to land in the airport of Ankara, leading to a diplomatic crisis between Ankara, Damascus and Moscow, and the unpiloted plane sent by Hezbollah and downed by Israel, raising concern over any potential escalating positions.                     

In this context, the stance taken by the Lebanese President was noteworthy, as he implicitly commented on sending the unmanned plane by reminding of the defense strategy which states that the Lebanese government has the priority in taking any decision regarding operations against Israel.                        

In Syria, developments touched the diplomatic and the military levels.                     

Diplomatically, the international envoy Lakhdar Brahimi arrived in Saudi Arabia and met with King Abdallah.                

Militarily, operations conducted by rebels escalated and targeted strategic bases of the Syrian army.                     

In Lebanon, it was reported that three detainees escaped Roumieh prison.
