Mecharafieh: International experiences of political solutions for refugees return not encouraging

Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Charbel Wehbeh called for intensifying International efforts to guarantee a safe return of the Syrian refugees to their country.

Wehbeh’s comments were made via a video call during a conference in Damascus on refugees, whereby he stressed importance of not linking the return to a political solution to the conflict in Syria.

He also called on the International community to help the Lebanese government in implementing its plan set for the return of refugees.

For his part, Caretaker Minister of Social Affairs Ramzi Mecharafieh who is partaking in the conference as head of the Lebanese delegation said that Lebanon has set a plan for the return of refugees that goes in line with international standards.

He also noted that "International experiences of political solutions for the return of refugees are not encouraging," he said.
