Gunmen cut fingers of Ehab al-Ezzi by sword

“Don’t kill me, I didn’t do anything”. These were the last words of 23-year-old Ehab al-Ezzi while gunmen struck him with a sword last Sunday near the Beirut Arab University.

Ehab was rushed to the hospital after a number of gunmen cut the fingers of his left hand with a sword while chanting “Allahu Akbar.”

"At around 3 pm on Sunday, I finished working in Verdun and headed to visit one of my relatives in Beirut’s Southern Suburbs. When I arrived near the Fakhreddine public school facing a building for the Arab League, a number of gunmen stopped me and asked me about my religion; I said I was Lebanese. However, a thick-bearded man yanked the chain which held a religious pendant pertaining to the sword of Imam Ali bin Abi Taleb and threw it to the ground. He stepped on it along with the gunmen accompanying him. Later on, a man wearing an Afghan-like costume pulled a long sword, ready to beat my head. I screamed No, no don’t kill me and I raised my left hand to protect my face. He cut my hand and fled with his friends, leaving me bleeding."

Ehab called his friend who arrived to the scene within a few minutes and took him to Al Rasul Al Aazam Hospital after wrapping his hand using a shirt as a tourniquet.

After giving him first aid, the employee at the hospital’s emergency room declined receiving him citing the lack of room as a reason. He advised him to head to Al-Zahraa University Hospital.
When told that he needed immediate surgery, Ehab called one of his relatives who informed him that his surgery would be covered at the Rafik Hariri University Hospital.

The young man said that he pleaded the Lebanese Armed Forces, who were 150 meters away from the scene, for help him but to no avail. During interrogations at the hospital, the detective told him that the army was ordered not to intervene.

Ehab said that perpetrators are well-known but for now he refuses to file a lawsuit against anyone.

This young man who lost his fingers is now seeking revenge and warned that he will look for those young men near the municipal stadium, and when he finds them, he would cut their fingers in retribution.

Later, Army Intelligence investigations revealed that the al-Ezzi's story is fabricated.
