FPM warns against sidelining president

Lebanon's largest Christian bloc, the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM), warned prime minister-designate Saad Hariri on Saturday against sidelining President Michel Aoun and other parliamentary blocs in talks over cabinet formation.

The bloc called on Hariri to return to the constitutional principles that “he knows well and which he previously adopted in forming every government, because it is the only way to form any government of any kind.”

The bloc also expressed its conviction that there are “internal and external reasons that have prevented Prime Minister-designate until now from seriously resolving to form the government.”

Hariri and Aoun have been at loggerheads over the formation of a cabinet for months, dashing hopes of a reversal of Lebanon's deepening financial meltdown.
