French President Francois Hollande arrived to Lebanon on Sunday for a short visit in which he only met with his Lebanese counterpart President Michel Slieman.
Hollande arrived first to Beirut Airport where he was received by Lebanese officials and the French Ambassador to Lebanon. He later headed to the Baabda Palace to meet with Sleiman.
The two presidents discussed the current issues in Lebanon and in the region during this critical period. After the meeting, the counterparts held a joint press conference in which they revealed the content and the results of their discussions. On the Syrian crisis, Sleiman stated that Lebanon is committed to the isolation from this crisis and its repercussions, stressing that the two agreed on providing more aid to the Syrian refugees in Lebanon. For his part, Hollande said that France will not allow any destabilization in Lebanon and will exert all possible efforts to ensure its security and unity, stressing that only by dialogue the Lebanese can ensure this unity. Hollande added that the European Union is ready to help Lebanon in the issue of the Syrian refugees. The presidents also commented on the assassination of late Brig. Gen. Wissam al- Hassan. Sleiman said: "We have overcome instability following the assassination of Brig. Gen. Wissam al-Hassan". "The assassins of Former PM Rafic Hariri and General Hassan will be punished", Hollande promised. President Sleiman revealed as well that France is ready to provide the Lebanese security forces with arms and weaponry to help them fulfill their duty in defending and protecting Lebanon.
