A woman named Hala Berro and her two daughters, 3 and 5 years old, were injured when a stun grenade exploded on Saturday behind Annasiri mosque in the east Tripoli neighborhood of Bab al Tebane. Hala was transferred to the hospital in critical condition, while one of her two daughters, named Asmaa, did not require medical attention.
The security forces began investigating to uncover the ins and outs of the incident.
A few key neighborhoods of Tripoli have witnessed several outbreaks of violence between Alawite and Sunni residents, especially in Bab al Tebane and Jabal Mohsen. The heaviest fighting was seen during the May 2008 conflict that broke out across Lebanon.
