President Aoun meets Patriarch Rai

President Michel Aoun met on Monday with Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai at the Baabda Presidential Palace.

Following the meeting, Rai said that the visit comes as part of completing discussions about "the necessity of forming a government and overcoming obstacles, especially that there is no justification for not forming a government."

“We tackled poverty, hunger, International Monetary Fund and the independence of the judiciary,” Rai added.

He also noted that talks also focused on the smuggling operations that distorted Lebanon’s reputation.

Saudi Arabia announced on Friday a ban on imports of fruits and vegetables from Lebanon, blaming an increase in drug smuggling, in a measure that will add to Lebanon's economic woes.
