Connely reiterates U.S. support for LAF

U.S. ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connely held a meeting Tuesday with Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn, during which she reiterated continued U.S. assistance to the LAF.

“The U.S. and the international community expect Lebanon and the LAF to live up to their commitment to U.N. resolution 1701,” Connely added. A U.S. embassy statement confirmed discussions regarding LAF Commander General Jean Kahwaji’s visit to the U.S.

The invitation, addressed by General Martin E. Dempsey, symbolizes the solid partnership between the U.S. and Lebanon and American support for Lebanon.

The embassy added that Connely had highlighted the importance that the U.S. attaches to the LAF role in protecting members of the Syrian opposition in Lebanon, which is part of the country’s international commitments that also include funding the STL.
