Electoral law published in official gazette is null and void-FPM
The Free Patriotic Movement said on Saturday that electoral law No. 8/2021 published in the official gazette is null and void as it was not passed in the Parliament by a majority of votes as specified in Article 57 of the Constitution in the case of laws rejected by the President of the Republic.
“What happened at the Parliament is a false and implicit interpretation of the Constitution, by an ordinary majority that voted in favor of its own interest, contrary to the Constitution,” the FPM continued.
It also voiced hopes that the Constitutional Council “would look into this constitutional wrongdoing, regardless of the content of the articles that the FPM will challenge.”
As for the expatriates vote, the FPM warned that the issue has not yet been resolved, and that it is counting on the “Constitutional Council to restore the right to its owners.”
It concluded by urging expatriates to register abroad on the basis of them voting in the 16th constituency for representatives of the diaspora, and those who wish to vote for representatives of their constituency in Lebanon must to register in Lebanon."
