On Independence Eve, President Sleiman calls on all parties to resume National Dialogue

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman delivered on Wednesday evening a speech on the occasion of Independence.

During the speech, Sleiman said that Independence is an occasion to show love to our country so it may remain independent and overcome strife conspiracies.

“We must refrain from actions that lead the country to the abyss,” Sleiman added stressing on the importance of self-distancing from regional conflicts and agreeing on a defense strategy.

Throughout his speech, the President said that all parties are urged to resume national dialogue in light of the aggravating Syrian crisis.

“The situation in in Lebanon deteriorated with the aggravating incidents at the North and after the assassination of the late Brigadier general Wissam al-Hassan,” Sleiman added.

He mentioned that Lebanon fought hard to get its independence, and maintaining it is a duty.

The President called on all Lebanese parties to commit to the Baabda Declaration, and promised that parliamentary elections will take place on due time.
