Aoun to al-Sharq: Visit of Qatari FM will be full of political, economic and investment dossiers
President Michel Aoun expressed on Saturday hopes that the diplomatic spat with the Gulf countries would end through dialogue and mutual respect, stressing Lebanon's keenness on the best relations with the Gulf countries.

In an interview with the Qatari newspaper al-Sharq, Aoun stressed that the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, is keen on supporting Lebanon and helping it out of its crises, praising the results of his fruitful talks with him and his visit to Doha.

“Qatar is a permanent friend of Lebanon, and we thank God that the history of close relations dating back to the fifties has not recorded any setback or any political or diplomatic flaw,” he said, noting that Qatar is the only country that provided all kinds of support to Lebanon for nothing in return.

Aoun also revealed that the date of the Qatari Foreign Affairs Minister’s visit has not been set yet, adding however that it will be full of political, economic and investment dossiers, noting that all facilities and infrastructure projects in Lebanon are available to Qatari investors.

As for the Beirut blast’s investigations, he explained that the controversy surrounding the powers of the lead investigator Judge Tareq Bitar could be resolved in the Parliament, which will hold a plenary session to determine who will have the authority to try presidents, lawmakers and ministers.

“This will lead to solving the governmental crisis that has disrupted cabinet meetings,” he concluded by saying.”
