Maronite Patriarch Bechara al-Rahi saw on Friday that the people in power are drowning in their conflicts and are looking for settlements and bargains to take revenge on each other, to distance their opponents, and appoint their accomplices, stressing that they are doing what they can to postpone the parliamentary and presidential elections from their constitutional date, for their own benefit against the interest of Lebanon and its people.

In his Christmas message, he demanded the restoration of our democratic system because we have been living in a state of disorder for years and he demanded the restoration of the state because it doesn’t act within its legitimacy, constitution and charter, and is subject to the deliberate imposition of a single will on constitutional institutions until they are shackled and disrupted.

He said, "We are not the only people who disagreed over their past. All peoples argued and fought. Where are our wars from the wars of Europe, America and Asia? But these peoples accepted their different history, reconciled, learned from their experiences and set out towards a bright future. When will we restore the national conscience and recall the glory of the state of Lebanon and the greatness of this influential people in global civilization, to succeed in stopping the downward path of our existence?"

He stressed that the only door to salvation is the declaration of Lebanon's active and positive neutrality, in implementation of the National Charter that refuses to turn Lebanon as a headquarters or corridor for any foreign presence, to protect partnership and unity and to make room for the better realization of Lebanon's role.
