IMF Spokeswoman: An IMF team will start a virtual mission the last week of January regarding negotiations with Lebanon
A spokeswoman for the International Monetary Fund stated on Tuesday that an IMF team will start a virtual mission in the last week of January regarding negotiations with Lebanon.

She mentioned that “discussions with the Lebanese authorities have continued on several of the many challenges facing the authorities, including the macroeconomic, fiscal and financial situation.”

“We intend to remain closely engaged in the coming weeks to help the authorities formulate a comprehensive reform strategy that addresses Lebanon’s deep economic challenges,” the IMF spokeswoman emphasized.

She also pointed out the importance of having broad political support for the implementation of this strategy, including by any future government, saying that “the reforms needed must restore macroeconomic stability, debt sustainability, financial sector solvency as well as a return to high and more inclusive growth.”
