Solemn mass held to commemorate 7 years since MP Tueni's assassination

A mass was held on the 7th anniversary since the assassination of MP Gebran Tueni and his two companions at St. Dimitrius Church in Beirut's Achrafieh district on Wednesday.

His Eminence Bishop Elias Audi, Metropolitan of Beirut for Greek Orthodox Church for the Archdiocese of Beirut, delivered a homily whereby he spoke about late Tueni's life.

Turning towards domestic issues, Bishop Audi added that the economic situation is getting worse seemingly since those competing on leaderships are turning a blind eye on the demands of the people.

"We've already lost too much and we are about to lose ourselves and our country," Bishop Audi said.

After the mass, Tueini's daughter Michele addressed her father in a statement whereby she said: "our consolation lies in the freedom which has become contagious just as you hoped it would be”.

Afterward, the family went to the Church Hall to accept condolences.

Tueini was a Lebanese politician and the former editor and publisher of daily paper An Nahar.

He was assassinated by a car bomb explosion on the 12th of December 2005 in Mkalles, an industrial suburb of Beirut, while he drove from his home in Beit Meri (Mount Lebanon) to his newspaper’s offices in Beirut’s Martyrs’ Square.

He was buried at Saint Dimitrius church graves.
