Introduction to the evening news 20-12-2012

Syria is currently witnessing accelerating developments that keep on increasing in quality and dangerousness; but the most prominent conclusion in this regard is that the standstill phase or the status quo ended to pave the way for the phase of dramatic developments.         

The data leading to such conclusion are many:           

The Free Syrian Army declared taking control of the first location at the borders with Lebanon, after taking over all the crossing points on the borders with Turkey, Jordan and Iraq.

The opposition started to adopt a military tactic that includes attacks against Regime Forces checkpoints to cut off their supply routes.                 

The spotlight increasingly focused on the escalating role of al-Qaeda in the military operations.                   

The report issued by the United Nations which concludes that the conflict on Syria became divided on a confessional basis.                   

On the other hand, the most prominent international development was represented by the Russian President Vladimir Putin when he declared that Moscow's first preoccupation is the fate of Syria not that of Assad.                 

On the Lebanese scene, a new complicated humanitarian issue has been added to the country's issues, concerns and troubles. It is the issue of the Palestinian refugees who are flocking from Yarmouk camp in Syria into Lebanon, as well as the Syrian refugees who keep on crossing into the Lebanese lands. This case became a burden that Lebanon is unable to bear and requires international care.                    

Also in Lebanon, the file which preoccupies the Lebanese people is that of the electricity, after cancelling the Deir Ammar tender and launching a new one.
