Charbel announces new electoral law

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said Monday that the electoral law that was agreed upon after intensive meetings is different from any other law in both form and content.

Charbel announced during a press conference that “we have finally agreed upon an electoral law based on proportional representation with open lists”, highlighting the importance of minority representation in the parliament and ensuring women a 30% quota for candidature.

The interior minister stressed that proportional representation is “the most efficient in Lebanon and reduces wasted votes.”
