Aoun: Signing decree accepting gov resignation does not contradict with constitution
President Michel Aoun reiterated on Monday that signing a decree accepting the resignation of the government does not contradict with the articles of the constitution, adding that a caretaker government cannot perform the tasks required from it amid a presidential vacuum.

Aoun’s comments were made during an interview with Kuwaiti newspaper al-Anba whereby he considered that the election of a new president needs the consensus of the Lebanese political forces.

"This is a matter that is out of reach right now," Aoun said without elaborating.

President Aoun blamed “all those who stood in the way of reform" for his mandate's inability to achieve reforms.”

As for the demarcation of maritime borders, Aoun reiterated that Israel, “which used to take from Arabs, now found itself in the opposite position because Lebanon was able to take from it what it considers to be its right without having to start a war.”

He stressed that oil and gas extraction is the fastest way to advance the country.
