Maj. Gen. Ibrahim: Lebanon's one and only enemy is Israel

General Security Chief Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim said on Wednesday that speculations regarding the Syrian crisis are "tragic" and warn of a long-term continuous violence.

According to Ibrahim, the Lebanese people must cope with this crisis since there is an international conflict over its solution.

The General visited on Christmas and New Year's eve the border sites and said in this context that there are Palestinian refugees among the displaced people who fled from Syria to Lebanon, stressing that the official figures show that there are some 160,000 registered Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

Ibrahim added that everyone is aware that the real number is much higher and that more than 13,000 displaced Palestinians, mostly from the Yarmouk camp, had fled to Lebanon. He also emphasized that the humanitarian condition of the refugees does not allow the closure of the borders.

On the issues pertaining to the Lebanese pilgrims kidnapped in Syria's Aazaz and the case of the Lebanese Islamists killed in the Talkalakh ambush, Ibrahim stated that these cases are not yet closed.

"When we freed the Turkish nationals we didn't close any swap deal and we didn't ask for any favor in return because we were fulfilling our duties and doing what's best for Lebanon," he affirmed.

On a separate note, the General Security chief toured the directorate's border sites and met General Security officers with talks featuring high on an array of political and security affairs.

The meeting dwelled on domestic security-related issues whereby Ibrahim pointed that "Lebanon's one and only enemy is Israel."
