Harb: Orthodox Gathering proposal incites division among Lebanese

A meeting was held on Thursday at MP Boutros Harb’s residence in Hazmieh.Several independent officials attended the meeting to protest the electoral law proposed by the Orthodox Gathering.

Following the meeting, Harb delivered a statement whereby he said that today's meeting supports President Michel Sleiman's rejection of the Orthodox Gathering electoral law.

Harb then added that this law is not proposed by the Orthodox sect and was not adopted by Christian religious authorities, stressing that this proposal incites division in Lebanon.

According to Harb, the Orthodox Gathering law will transform a segment of the Lebanese people into second degree citizens since it opposes the Lebanese Constitution and harms national unity.

"We call on Christian parties to set their priorities straight and work hard to establish an electoral law that better represents them," he concluded.
