Rai from Houston: Christians should not be seen as worthless minorities

Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai said Wednesday from Houston, Texas, that “it is important not to consider Christians as minorities which are worthless in terms of numbers.”

“Lebanon witnessed bitter days; however, thanks to its unique mix of Muslim-Christian culture it managed to overcome all difficulties,” he added.

“The presence of Arabs and Lebanese in the U.S. is such a great pride.” Rai voiced opposition to the often-heard adage that “Lebanon is a small country and plays no role in the balance of power and oil.”

Rai arrived in Houston, celebrated Mass and was later received by Najad Issam Fares.

Fares later commented that “Rai is not a religious leader for the Christians but rather their protector in the Middle East, especially amid this critical phase.”
